Two Minute Get To Know - Christine Warner

We're all busy writers, mothers, bosses, employees…well, you get the picture. There isn't enough time to GET TO KNOW everyone. But if you have two minutes, you'll meet a few authors and aspiring writers.

Today we'd like you to meet :

Name: Christine Warner

Two Second Bio:

I live in a small town in Michigan with my husband and 2 of my 3 kids. We have 2 golden retrievers (best dogs ever) and 2 cats (best cats ever)…*leaning in to whisper* there is a slight tug of war of egos so I have to say that they are each the best ever…rolling eyes…you know how pets are. I work a couple of long days a week at a hospital and I love to write!!!

Website: http://christine-warner.com/

Published? : Yay, I am! My debut book, Some Like it in Handcuffs releases March 23, 2012 with The Wild Rose Press and they just contracted me for a second book titled Two Timing the Boss.

Agent? :

I’m still working on the agent thing. There are a few I’d love to work with and I sub to them on occasion and hope that one day they’ll sign me on.

A Few Things About You

Real Name or Pseudonym:

If I could’ve thought of something amazingly exciting I would’ve gone for it, but since I couldn’t, I stuck with my real name.

Currently Reading:

Pleasure reading is rare for me these days, so it’s slow going as lately I’m writing more than reading. One for the Road by Lynne Marshall, Until There was You by Kristan Higgins and Legacy by Myra Hargrave McIlvain.

Next on Your Reading List:

I’m a huge fan of true crime author Ann Rule and she just had a new release on November 29th, Don’t Look Behind You…that’s next on my list.

Facebook or Twitter (include account name):

You can find me on facebook under Christine Warner or check out my author page and LIKE me there @ http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christine-Warner/143430882396013 I’m also on Twitter under ChristinesWords.

Two authors (living or dead) you'd want to have dinner with:

I bet you can guess I’m going to say Ann Rule. The next choice is a hard one for me…too many authors I enjoy. I just read a series by Catherine Mann that I enjoyed and would love to chat with her about, and the book I’m reading by Kristin Higgins is fun and I like her humor, so I think it’d be fun to dine with her too. Oops, I named three…lol

Jet-setter or armchair traveler:

Mostly arm chair, but the last few years the hubs and I have been taking some great road trips in different directions of the country. Hope to travel more.

Tea or Coffee: Coffee…isn’t that a requirement for a writer?.

Words to live by: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Your Writing

Writing music: I need peace and quiet. I’d be too distracted with music on.

Character Inspirations:

I’m inspired to create characters that have various looks and traits of people I know and respect or am curious about or are in the news. Building a hero or heroine can come from anywhere…at least for me.

Plot Inspirations:

Again, that can come from anywhere. I’ll read a news article and something will pop into my head, or a conversation with a friend, or just a sentence I hear on television. Something little can inspire a whole story for me. I actually have a file on my desktop dedicated to future story plots quickly mapped out. Hopefully I’ll get to write them all. Lol The idea for Some Like it in Handcuffs came to me by accident. I actually came up with the title and from those 5 words the story was born.

Setting Inspirations:

In Some Like it in Handcuffs I made up a city in Michigan that is a combination of several other towns in Michigan I’m familiar with. It was fun. But I have a sequel planned titled Some Like it in Vegas, and since I’ve never been to Las Vegas, I’ll have to use my research skills and annoy some friends that have been there with numerous questions. lol

Plotter (carefully plot books) or Pantser (write from the seat of your pants):

I’m neither. I like to say I have one leg in and one leg out. I plot to a certain point then write by the seat of my pants. Sometimes this trips me up and I have to put stories aside to really think things through and sometimes my stories lead in other directions I hadn’t planned on. Also, I’m discovering that each story writes differently for me. Some I can just write with a quick outline, others I write an outline for each chapter and then there are others that I have a basic plot point and character sketches and the story just flows from my fingertips.

A huge thanks to Christine for sitting on my hot seat today! Congratulations on your upcoming release, I wish you many happy sales in 2012 and beyond.

Thanks for having me Sheri, it was fun.

Two Minute Introduction

We're all busy writers, mothers, bosses, employees…well, you get the picture. There isn't enough time to GET TO KNOW everyone. But if you have two minutes, you'll meet a few authors and aspiring writers.

Today we'd like you to meet :

Name (the one you write under):
D’Ann Linscott-Dunham

Two Second Bio (one or two lines):
Livin’ the western dream, writing, working on a small farm with horses, dogs, cats. Oh, and a husband and daughter. LOL.

Website: http://www.wordwranglers.blogspot.com

Published? : Not yet!

Agent? : AKA Literary Agency with Terrie Wolf.

A Few Things About You

Real Name or Pseudonym: real name now for contests, but eventually D’Ann Lindun.

Currently Reading: Kat Martin’s Against trilogy.

Next on Your Reading List: The Help. I guess. My daughter is bugging me to read it. I generally dislike literary fiction. The movie was good, although I found it desperately sad. I always have some form of suspense on my nightstand.

Facebook or Twitter (include account name): No Twitter! Facebook, um…D’Ann Linscott-Dunham!

Two authors (living or dead) you'd want to have dinner with: Anne Stuart. That woman writes a broken alpha hero like none other. Laura Kinsale for the same reason.

Jet-setter or armchair traveler: Armchair. I hate traveling. I have everything I need right here.

Tea or Coffee: Both, chai tea and coffee with lots of cream and sugar.

Words to live by: Cowgirl up!

Your Writing

Writing music: Vince Gill, always. Any old country or classic rock always works. Right now, my daughter got me hooked on Adele and Joss Stone, and I recently began listening to Waylon Jennings sing Hank Williams’ oldies. I play it over and over.

Character Inspirations: My dad often shows up in the cowboys I create. And others are a conglomeration of the cowboys and cowgirls I know and admire.

Plot Inspirations: I love suspense of any kind. I’m addicted to TV shows like Dateline mysteries. I’ve always wanted to solve a mystery!

Setting Inspirations: The Colorado Mountains all around me. There’s no place like them. I sometimes use Arizona, too. I spent half my childhood there and I love it, too.

Plotter (carefully plot books) or Pantser (write from the seat of your pants): Seat of my britches! I “see” a scene in my head like a slow-moving movie. I write it, then fill in the rest as I go. Including characters’ names, place, conflict and all the rest. Plotting just doesn’t work for me.

Two Minute Interview

NOCTURNAL NIGHTS Two Minute Introduction

We're all busy writers, mothers, bosses, employees…well, you get the picture. There isn't enough time to GET TO KNOW everyone. But if you have two minutes, you'll meet a few authors and aspiring writers.

Today we'd like you to meet :

Name (the one you write under): Cynthia Pahl

Two Second Bio (one or two lines):

I am a writer who struggles with the rules of grammar. Since I am a bit of a control freak, it irritates me that those rules won't conform to my particular logic. I am married and Mom to two small humans who don’t conform to any logic at all.

Website:

Well I don’t have one yet, but when I do it will be called internet corn. (Hoping to get a lot of accidental traffic, should be interesting.)

Published? : I am working on it.

Agent? : I have my eye on a few. I like to call it research. I wonder if it counts as internet stalking.

A Few Things About You

Real Name or Pseudonym: Only have the one name. I need to keep things simple.

Currently Reading: I know we are supposed to read, read, read, but I can't read while I am writing. It muddles MY story.

Next on Your Reading List: My name on the NY Times best selling list.

Facebook or Twitter (include account name): Yes, I have both. Cindy Pahl, I still only have one name.)

Two authors (living or dead) you'd want to have dinner with:

Laura Ingalls Wilder, I have loved her since I was a child, she inspired me in so many ways. Hers were the first books that I fell in love with.

Kathleen Woodwiss, she is the original superstar of romance writing. The way she paints her stories and characters still holds me in awe.

Jet-setter or armchair traveler: Armchair, but once the Publishers Clearinghouse van gets here, there will be a Jet.

Baked or fried?: (usually this says tea or coffee, but I wanted to change it for you)

Awesome! Fried Chicken, and Tea, Earl Grey with honey.

Words to live by: If you look for the bad in life you will find it.

Your Writing

Writing music: I like soundtracks or classical music. Nothing with words or I end up typing the lyrics.

Character Inspirations:

When I start a romance I usually try to find polarizing traits. I like to make them repel before they attract. So I would have to say the traits inspire the characters.

Plot Inspirations:

Once you flesh out the characters, the plot is kind of organic to who they are and what their goals are.

Setting Inspirations:

Well, I guess that would depend on the book. My first love is SFR [science fiction romance], so I would have to say the night sky, full of wonder and possibilities.

Plotter (carefully plot books) or Pantser (write from the seat of your pants):

I plot everything out like a movie. That being said, if the characters veer off the path, I may let them wander if they do something fun.
