LINES I WISH WERE MINE

Have you ever sighed with contentment, then shaken your head in despair, after reading or hearing a line you wish you'd written? Here are a few of my favorites:

"Lay your cuts and bruises upon my skin." - The Script, "You Won't Feel a Thing". Oh how I love this line - talk about romantic!

"I know I've left you in places of despair, oh I know I've loved you so please throw down your hair."
- Damien Rice, "The Animals Were Gone" I shiver every time I hear this confession coupled with need.

"Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood." - Frank McCourt, "Angela's Ashes" This set-up lets me know I'm in the company of a master speaker who is not going to hold back his thoughts.

"For over two hundred years the Owens women have been blamed for everything that has gone wrong in town." - Alice Hoffman, "Practical Magic" Aren't these dames you want to hear about?

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." - Charles Dickens, "Great Expectations" With a set-up like that, who can resist?

"I didn't ask ... shouldn't have told me." - Gin Blossoms, "Til I Hear It from You" Who doesn't love someone who wants to be kept in the dark?

"It was on the dark side of twilight when we got to Bistritz." - Bram Stoker, "Dracula The dark side of twilight? I'm in ....

These lines speak to me because of their honesty. I feel as though they're being whispered in my ear.

What about you? What are some of your favorite lines? Why?
