My New Year's Resolutions Always Fizzle Out!

Well...
It's 2011 and I've made the usual New Year's Resolutions. I'd like to share a few of the recurring one's with you.

1. Lose Weight

I say this every stinkin' year and really have good intentions but two weeks into it, I give up. It's too easy to have snacks at my desk at work. Who wants a carrot stick? Not me. I'd much rather have the silky smooth taste of Dove Light or Dark Chocolate at my finger tips.
Apples you say...They are good, but go right through me. I need something that will stick to my ribs (or my hips) like Flaming Hot Cheetos or Tangy Taffy.

2. Stay on Budget...Less Spending, More Saving

This is another tough one. I love to shop, especially for my kids. Just because something's cute, doesn't mean my kids need to have it. That being said...I comfort myself, as I get out Old Navy, Justice, Kohl's, Dillard's etc. credit cards, by telling my good-guy conscience that my kids are young and the clothes are cheap and when they get older the cost will be so expensive, I might as well buy the name brands while I still can afford them.
This year I've added a new one to my recurring list. I started writing two years ago and searched for a literary agent for the first 12 months. It's so dang hard to get an agent's attention. Yes, I know my fellow writer's are nodding in approval, so my #3 New Year's Resolution is... (drum roll please)

3. Find an Agent

Now, if you're an aspiring writer, like myself, you know how complicated it is to prepare the best query letter, write a synopsis which will fit in the suggested number of pages per an agent's guidelines, and search for an agency which doesn't have an automated response e-mail...
"We're sorry for the form rejection, but due to the high volume of submissions, our agency can't possibly respond to all queries personally."
Umm...I don't know about other writer's but I've spent my precious time researching the agency, writing what I consider to be my best work, and sent it to a reputable agent for perusal. If I CHOOSE an agent, I'd like them to READ my material. With all due respect, I understand they're busy and overwhelmed with queries, and that's fine, but how will any new writer ever be discovered if an Agent doesn't read past the one-paragraph-summary.
Ugh! Now, I feel much better and thank you for reading my Blog. I'm sure some of you won't agree, but this is a blog and complete and utter biased opinions on my part!

Ha! Your resolutions are the same as my forever forwarding wants. Too bad a genie hasn't popped up to grant me my three wishes! Best of luck in attaining yours.
