Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to all! I don't know about you, but I love to read books that incorporate the holiday season into the story line. I've just read Debbie Macomber's "The Perfect Christmas" - it was my first Macomber book. I was drawn to the book because of its festive holiday cover. And the recipes inside.

I also adore "Hercule Poirot's Christmas" by Agatha Christie (not one to be limited, Dame Agatha also put out "Hallowe'en Party", which I reread every autumn, as though the solution will have changed). And don't get me started on the Mary Higgins Clark or J.B. Fletcher/Donald Bain seasonal stories....

I love these holiday tomes because of their attention to detail. I feel like I can learn a lot about description by the way these authors skillfully evoke a festive atmosphere, which somehow gets mixed seamlessly into the plot.

What do you think? Do you agree with the notion that themed books are terrific examples of "how to use description"? What are your holiday favorites?
