Zombies, oh my!

I’m not afraid to admit that zombies creep me out. I usually avoid any movies or shows with zombies. My fear of zombies probably started because I watched the original Night of the Living Dead at a very young age. My parents didn’t know I was watching this movie. I loved horror movies, especially the vampire movies, but I had no idea what I was getting into with zombies.

Zombies don’t walk or talk or even look remotely human any longer. They can’t pass for human like a vampire or a werewolf.  Zombies as a romantic lead in a romance novel? Ick. Major ick.

So when AMC came out with The Walking Dead, I stayed away. But I kept hearing how great the show was, and AMC kept playing episodes so I ended up catching a couple of episodes every once in a while. I was intrigued but couldn’t get into the story because I had missed so much.

It wasn’t until AMC recently showed a marathon of the first three seasons that I got hooked. Now it made sense to me. The show isn’t so much about zombies. It’s about survival in a world that doesn’t make sense any longer. I would say it’s one of the best series out there now.

The zombies still creep me out. I jump and cringe whenever they come on screen. And the concept of a virus that takes over a dead brain scares the hell out of me, but it’s the survivors and their stories that make this show so compelling.
