Greetings on New Year's Eve-Eve!

Kaye Spencer here, wishing you a wonderful New Year. With the imminent arrival of 2012, and with a bit of Scottish ancestry in my blood, I've decided for this New Year to institute some of the the old Scottish traditions of Hogmanay (refer to this website for a most interesting article:
http://www.rampantscotland.com/know/blknow12.htm ).

A good many people sing a rousing rendition of Robert Burns' Auld Lang Syne just after midnight as an optimistic welcome to the New Year and as a sentimental tribute to the Old Year and some have certain food traditions for the first day of the year. While I participate in both the singing and food tradition (New Years Eve fondue), I'm adding an additional celebratory component called, "First Footing".

"First Footing" is the Scottish custom of ensuring good luck for the household in the coming year. The tradition goes that the "first foot" that steps across your threshold after midnight on January 1st should be a tall, handsome, dark-haired male bearing symbolic gifts of coal, shortbread, salt, black bun, and whisky. Here is a picture of the handsome, tall, dark-haired Scottish man I think would be perfect for the honors of "First Footing" at my house...with or without the gifts--Romance Cover Model, Jimmy Thomas.

Since I've recently signed another contract with Cobblestone Press for my newest story, Get Branded, which will release in just a few weeks, and Jimmy is on the cover--twice--my New Year's luck is already primed to be great!

Until next year...

Kaye
