The Southern Man Part One

My best friend was holding her annual Halloween Bash. It was already Saturday and I hadn't even decided on my costume for the party. Looked like it would be a long day of trying on costumes to find just the right one. Little did I know that this would be one of the most important nights of my life.

I laughed when my friend opened the door decked out like the wicked witch of the west. She ushered me in and whispered in my ear, “I have someone I want you to meet.” Then grabbed my arm dragging me through the throng of people.

That’s when I noticed the young man standing near the punch bowl. He had the most incredible crystal blue eyes, they reminded me of the ocean, beautiful and mysterious. My mind wondered to his relationship status. I shook my head, thinking this is crazy! We haven’t even met yet but I couldn’t pull my gaze from his commanding presence. He carried himself with such grace and oozed confidence. People gravitated towards him especially the women.

I was boggled by my fascination with this man. Suddenly I wonder what it would be like to have his lips touch mine. My fingers grazed over my bottom lip as my breath caught in my throat. My friends waved her hand in front of me, “Hey…you okay?”

I cleared my throat and blinked my eyes back into focus, “Fine…Sorry.”

For one brief moment I was having my own little fantasy in my best friends living room. Trying to clear my mind I grabbed a glass of punch and nearly choked as a strong southern drawl came from behind me.

“Hello there, darlin.” Those piercing blue eyes had me forgetting to breath.

I tried to play it cool. But it was just a disaster…nothing was coming out. I stood there staring. He laughed and winked. Everything about this man called to me, the way he cocked his head slightly when talking, his sweet southern way of speaking. The sleek way he moved reminded me of a dancer, strong and graceful. That’s when I knew I had to have this man, mind, body and soul. Not for a night but forever. This is where the story begins…

Linda, That was exactly what I needed to hear. I have only written a couple of short stories and a few poems. I am working on something right now, but it's not close to being anything yet. Thanks for the comment.
