Go Ahead And Dream!

On January 14, 1984, after her performance of her hit Holiday on American Band Stand, Dick Clark asked Madonna what her plans for the future were. She snorted and answered "to rule the world".

Why do I bring this up twenty seven years later? Because my 65 year old mother knows who she is and so do my teenage kids. Maybe she doesn't "rule" the world, but she is known world wide with a career that has spanned three decades.

I point this out because I just finished a book by Sage Cohen called THE PRODUCTIVE WRITER and she points out that people fulfill about 25% of their dreams, so to accomplish what you want you have to dream bigger than what you hope to accomplish. Four times bigger to be exact.

Back to Madonna. Had she answered “be a star”, would I still belt out the words to Borderline when it comes on the 80’s station? Maybe so. But… would my kids be able to roll their eyes and tell me I’m not Madonna? Maybe not.

Dare to dream, and I mean DREAM!

You are a writer, not because you’ve been published or because you got a great review on your favorite blog. You are a writer because you have a tale to tell that keeps you company in the wee hours of the morning when you can't sleep and while you sit waiting at stoplights.
So I challenge you to Dream big! Post it here for all the world to see. And watch yourself skip down the path to that end. You may not make it all the way, but Damn! What a journey!!!
Here I’ll start…

I dream that people will study my works of literature (or smut…tomato, tomoto) 200 hundred years from now saying "see that’s how it’s done", just like we do Shakespeare today.

Your turn. (Come on you can do it. Say it out loud then …one, two, three…type!)

Quote of the day:

Cool post, Brenda. And you know what? I think I wasn't dreaming big enough, but today, I'm going to expand my dreams. I don't just want to become a published author--no--I want to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!! *evil laugh*
