A Beautiful Dream or Wishful Thinking?

Caitlyn rubbed the sleep from her eyes and a slight moan escaped her lips. It was a beautiful morning. The sun shined through the large bay windows of her room. She bounced from the bed and headed for the shower. She had tons to do today and hope she had enough time to get it all done.

Six hours later Caitlyn arrived home from a tedious and trying day she thought would never end. With a sigh, she opened the door and was pleasantly surprised by the sweet aroma of roses. The scent tickled her nose and brought a smile to her face. The smell seemed to caress her and welcomed her home.

Looking down she noticed a trail of rose petals. A slight smile tugged at her features. Reaching down she brought one tiny petal to her nose. The sweet smell reminded her of their first date and the first time he had ever given her flowers. What a sweet man to do this for her. Following the tiny yellow petals from the front door through the living room to the kitchen.

The table was set with her best china and an ice bucket with a fine wine sat on the dinning room table. She could see the light  through the small window in the oven door. Opening the oven, the smell of Chicken Parmesan made her mouth water. She realized she hadn’t eaten all day. The memories of their first date came rushing in on her. Strange that something that happened so long ago could be so fresh in her mind.

Her emotions and senses raged out of control. Heading for the bedroom, she opened the door and shock stopped her in her tracks. Her eyes darted around the room taking in all the romance the room promised. The bed was dressed in black satin sheets and petals graced its surface. Running her hand over the sheets, they were sleek and cool to the touch. The bed was turned down and beckoned to her. Then she noticed at the end of the bed lay a black nighty. She picked it up and held it in front of her glancing in the mirror. The texture soft and silky against her skin.

She glanced around wondering where the special man was that had planned this romantic tryst. “Lance?” Nevertheless, confusion hit when she realized she was all alone. “Is that you?” Heading back to the living room in search of him she heard the door open. “Lance? Is that you?”

“Yes, I’m home.”

Caitlyn ran straight into his arms. Gushing with happiness. He was the sweetest man she knew. He embraced her and looked down with confusion. “What’s for dinner?”

Her jaw dropped and she eyed him curiously. “What do you mean? Dinner is in the oven.” She glanced around in shock. Everything had vanished. What was going on? Had she imagined it all? She ran into the bedroom and there were no rose petals and no satin sheets. It was all gone. She sat down on the edge of the bed and sighed. Was she going crazy or was it only a beautiful dream?

What a cute story. The whole time I'm reading it, I'm thinking "Why can't that happen to me?" And then I read the end and had to laugh - the ending was ALL ME! A dream.
Looking forward to reading more like this!
