The Amityville Horror, How it all started...

The house when the Lutz's moved in.
As the house looks now.
Who hasn't heard the horrific tale of Amityville, the quaint little house possessed by demons. Or is it?
The true story of Amityville begins on November 13, 1974, when 24 year old Ronald DeFeo murdered his entire family while they slept. All six victims were found lying face down with their heads resting on their arms. The mystery of why Ronald did it, is still under debate today. Some believe he killed his family because he had heard voices in his head telling him to do it. While other versions told form DeFeo himself, that he did it in conspiracy with his sister Dawn, whom he claims killed his siblings and mother. He supposedly killed his father and left, when he returned to find his mother and siblings dead, he became irate and killed Dawn. Still some speculate he did it all himself because his father had physically abused him, his mother because she did nothing to protect him.
Whatever the reason, the fact murders were committed in that house, still brings up some real possibility of it being haunted. I for one believe that hauntings due exist and whether a hoax staged by the Lutzs or not, it is still arguable that something out of the ordinary did in fact happen to cause Ronald to kill his entire family. Although by his own admission the Amityville house was not haunted, even though he swore it was in an interview with author Hans Holzer, which he later recanted.
Regardless, if the house was haunted before, or if it not, there is strong evidence I believe, that it is haunted now. And although the new owners swore that they have never experienced a supernatural occurrence in the house, the Lutzs' claims can not be entirely with out merit. Several articles have been written, tv shows aired, movies made...etc...about the Lutz's "(Amityville's owners subsequent to the murders...), that they have either admitted to a hoax, which I have not found proof of other then hearsay, or actually experienced said haunting.
Do I believe that the Lutz's claims are real? Well yes and no. Yes I believe something extraordinary happened in that house. An entire family of five wouldn't up and leave a home after settling in, only 28 days from the date they moved in. A house is a major investment, and by all accounts the Lutz were not wealthy people who could up and leave on a whim or for "publicity purposes to promote a Hoax. No because what really did happen how ever frightening, was obviously embellished by Hollywood.
So I guess it is a matter of opinion then...but I ask you this, If you found out that six people were murdered in the home you bought only a short while ago before you moved in, would you stay?
Happy Hauntings!

If I found out that the house we were going to purchase had been the place of a murder or murders, there is no way I'd buy it. Even if others swore nothing strange--paranormal-- ever happened there, I still wouldn't.

Doesn't a Realtor have to disclose if someone has died in the house? I'm with Brenda - not interested in property with baggage! I watched the Amityville Horror (read the book too) way too young. I still think of the glowing red eyes of the pig in the bedroom.

I would think so, however I've read so many cases where, the owner finds out after the purchase. So I would gather they don't necessarily have to.

I'm not sure if they have to or not but I would never live in a place like that. I have lived in a once haunted house with a spirit that was pure evil. Never ever again. Just gives me the chills thinking about it.

Have you noticed that Caucasian folk will suffer longer in a possessed home longer than any other race? Wazzup with that? LOL! Some I heard Whoopie Goldberg say once.
