TELL IT TO ME STRAIGHT

TELL IT TO ME STRAIGHT

Hello, and welcome to Tabby's Nocturnal Nights. Today I would like to talk about my WIP, or more like “THE” scene near the end of my MS where everything comes to a head before the resolution.

My manuscript is 36 chapters with a short prologue. The scene I am referring to happens in chapter 35. I've had this particular incident written for over a year. This is how I saw my novel playing out even while it was in the planning stages, and the outcome has never changed, though I have made tons of revisions.

I have received crits up to chapter 33 and have made the revisions I felt worked with my novel. The chapter I am worried about comes up for crits in two weeks and I am soooo nervous. What the problem is is I'm scared how my critters are going react to what happens. Will they like it? Will they think it's cheap? What if they feel I should rewrite that scene?

I love that scene, and as I said, it is how I pictured things happening even before I started writing. So, do I change it if my critters hate it? Or do I listen to my heart and stick to my guns and leave it the way I want it?

Dammit, I just don't know. I have tried rewriting it, but each time I did it came out sounding forced, fake, like it was from a different story.

If most of my crit partners don't care for it, what would an agent think? He/she would probably want me to change it and then I'm right back where I started. Maybe what I'll do is try my hardest to come up with an alternative that does fit with my story for just in case. I have time to come up with a good one.

Have any of you run into this particular problem? Do you have something in your WIP that you just love so much that you feel it would take away from your story if you changed it? I would love to hear how you handled it.

I will keep you all posted as to what happens when I receive crits on that chapter. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing, but something tells me I'm not.

Hey, Tabby, I have another suggestion for the hottie of the week. How about Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn from the Lord Of The Rings? He has that sweaty, sexy thing going on, and he is dynamite with a sword.

I will keep him in mind girl. Sorry I still owe you Castielle from Supernatural. But I watched Queen of the Damned, My favorite movie and had to post Stewart Townsend. I think what you are going through is normal. I don't think you need to cut the scene maybe it just needs to be tweaked a little. I also think you are letting doubt creep in. I know I do it too, we all do. Post it for crits and see what happens. You may be surprised and they may all love it. Send it to me and I will read it. You are a great writer keep telling yourself that! Over and Over! You are also the best crit partner and friend anyone could ask for!

I will send it to you. And yes, it is up for crits in a few days, then I will know for sure.
And yep, doubt keeps creepin in--can't help it. If this scene doesn't work for most of my crit partners then I will rework it. We'll see!
Have you seen a pic of Cass? LOL, he is the sexiest angel I have ever seen.....in a tired worn out way. What I love about him is how he learns to love humans. He carries the weight of all mankind on his shoulders.
