Why is it so?

As someone famous once said, “I was born with the kind of enquiring mind that frequently gets me into trouble”. I, too, am one of those annoying people who often asks “Why?”

It’s not enough for me to read a book where many groupings are menages. I want to know why. Do they belong to a BDSM club that encourages its members to form polyamorous relationships? It is a custom or part of their heritage? Are they perhaps shapeshifters who need more than one partner to complete their transformation? Why? Why do some many people in this world group in threes or fours or more?

This isn’t just for ménages, it’s for any non-average situation. Anything out of the ordinary. Situations that are different make for great stories, but for me, there always has to be a reason why those differences have occurred.

I suppose that’s why once I have satisfied myself why a particular world which suits certain characters exists, that world keeps recurring in my books.

It’s not just with ménages, it also happens with other worlds as well. Several years ago two men who work at the Botanical Gardens met and fell in love. Their names are Kalman and Enre. Enre has fiery red hair and an attitude to match. The world is full of injustice and he wants everything to be fair and equitable. Kalman is older, calm and logical. Nonetheless the attraction between them is very real and passionate. Their story is told in “Hotter Than Hell.” Thus began the “Spicy Love” series. Neither of them would leave me alone though, so they were back for a sequel in “Still Hotter Than Hell”.

The Botanical Gardens where they work is a beautiful place and there’s something erotically primeval about digging in the dirt, growing amazing flowers, and watching seeds bloom. Then several people, work colleagues of Kalman and Enre, started demanding their own story. Beverley, Hyacinthe, and Inigo now have their own story, “Spicy Love” book three, “Blooming Love”, which is due for release in April. But this story isn’t an MM, it’s a ménage, FFM. There’s also a touch of the paranormal in this story.
One thing I can promise readers though. Trust me, there’s an absolutely solid, real-life reason, why this world and this story suddenly turned out this way.

Gimme that world!

I find myself reading a particular author because of the fantastic worlds she can build. Creative, believable, and unique. To go back and visit, time and time again, through sequels or series. When you’ve read the last page, and wish it’d never end.

So you buy the next book, or wait for the next release.

There have been a few authors who take me on just such a voyage, ones that I keep thinking about long after the book is finished. Sometimes, even, a few books later.

Those are the writers who are truly gifted. Some of my favorites are (in no particular order):

• JR Ward – The Black Dagger Brotherhood series & Fallen Angels series

• Cherry Adair – T-FLAC series

• Karen Marie Moning – Fever series

• Jacqueline Frank – All of her series

• And my crit partner, Brenda Dyer, who’s work isn’t published yet but I know soon will be – The Prophecy series

Which author have you read, and then gone back for more?

World Building

The first book in my new series, “Possessive Passions”, has just been released from Siren BookStrand. “Shared Possession” is set in an entirely new world. In this world all the brothers marry one wife. They abduct her and make love to her all night long. Then, if she agrees—and the marriage isn’t legal unless she freely agrees—they are all married the next day.
The society has to be hidden, not just because it’s polyandrous, but because polyandry means they are comparatively wealthy. With several men to provide for each woman and her children, no one is ever left in need.
Because they are a close-knit community all kinds of support is available to everyone.
Such comparative wealth and happiness has meant in the past that the outside world has become jealous of them, so that’s another reason to keep themselves mostly hidden.
I had a lot of fun creating this world and all the people in it, deciding on the structure of the buildings, their traditions, foods, and economic system.
I had to keep detailed notes as people reappeared in the three books and the geography couldn’t change. But being able to make things up as I went along was awesome.

Shared Possession” Blurb:
Chevaunne is abducted by three brothers who take her to a new world where brothers share one wife, who is their treasured possession. Jim, Sam, and Paul have waited years to find the perfect woman, and when they see Chevaunne, they know immediately she is the one for them.
After a mind-blowing night with the three men, Chevaunne marries them the next day in front of the entire community. Now she has to learn a totally new life—a new culture, new ways of doing everything. But the sex is amazing, her men are considerate and loving, and Chevaunne is making friends and settling in.
Soon, though, she begins to wonder if she’s losing her mind. No matter how happy she is, she was kidnapped, after all! What was she thinking when she agreed to stay?

Shared Possession story excerpt

Chevaunne became aware she was aching deliciously in all sorts of places that had been neglected for far too long. Both her previous boyfriends had been fellow workers at the hospital, one a doctor, the other an admin assistant. The relationship with the doctor had gradually fizzled out when their schedules never seemed to have them off work at the same time, and she’d decided she wanted a lot more than the occasional fuck against the supply room wall. The other relationship had ended in a blaze of anger when she’d discovered he was only dating her “because nurses know how to give good head.”
So why was she feeling so well-used and relaxed when she had no current boyfriend?
Chevaunne wriggled down a little deeper under the covers and felt the hard bodies lying on either side of her. Suddenly, she was wide-awake. Oh, shit! That hadn’t been a dream. I really was kidnapped by three brothers and agreed to marry them, then had my brains fucked out over and over again.
Her eyes flew open, and she sat up in the bed. Yep, three men. Jim, Sam, and Paul. And she’d agreed to marry them. She needed to see a psychiatrist right now and get her head examined!
Two gentle hands pulled her over onto a hard body. “Morning, beautiful lady.”
That was Paul. He’d called her that last night.
All three of them kissed her, and hands slid over her body, teasing her breasts, cupping her mound, touching her gently along her ribs and down her side. Lust exploded in her and cream dripped onto her inner thighs. I can’t possibly have sex again. I’ve never had so many orgasms in one night in my life before! There’s no way I could do it again so soon. Or is there?
Regret sounded strongly in his voice as Jim said, “We would enjoy making love to you again, but we don’t want you to be too sore. This morning we must say our vows to the Justice of the Peace and our monk, Father Yeshe. Come and shower now, then we need to have breakfast and get dressed.”
Jim took her to the bathroom and showed her where the shampoo and soaps were kept and pointed out the pile of towels to her, and then he left her alone.
Chevaunne shut the door and sank onto the commode. Actually, one of the two commodes. There were two sinks as well, plus the biggest tub she’d ever seen. Dazedly, Chevaunne shook her head. Her brain was still trying to grasp what she’d done. Had she really agreed to marry three men? How did that work? I’m pretty sure that’s not legal, but then neither is kidnapping. So who is this JP we’re seeing? Why see a JP when one woman marrying three men isn’t legal?
It was all too much to think about, and her tummy was rumbling. She hadn’t eaten supper, and she’d burned off a lot of calories last night. She grinned as she remembered the fantastic sex and stepped into the shower.
