Why is it so?

As someone famous once said, “I was born with the kind of enquiring mind that frequently gets me into trouble”. I, too, am one of those annoying people who often asks “Why?”

It’s not enough for me to read a book where many groupings are menages. I want to know why. Do they belong to a BDSM club that encourages its members to form polyamorous relationships? It is a custom or part of their heritage? Are they perhaps shapeshifters who need more than one partner to complete their transformation? Why? Why do some many people in this world group in threes or fours or more?

This isn’t just for ménages, it’s for any non-average situation. Anything out of the ordinary. Situations that are different make for great stories, but for me, there always has to be a reason why those differences have occurred.

I suppose that’s why once I have satisfied myself why a particular world which suits certain characters exists, that world keeps recurring in my books.

It’s not just with ménages, it also happens with other worlds as well. Several years ago two men who work at the Botanical Gardens met and fell in love. Their names are Kalman and Enre. Enre has fiery red hair and an attitude to match. The world is full of injustice and he wants everything to be fair and equitable. Kalman is older, calm and logical. Nonetheless the attraction between them is very real and passionate. Their story is told in “Hotter Than Hell.” Thus began the “Spicy Love” series. Neither of them would leave me alone though, so they were back for a sequel in “Still Hotter Than Hell”.

The Botanical Gardens where they work is a beautiful place and there’s something erotically primeval about digging in the dirt, growing amazing flowers, and watching seeds bloom. Then several people, work colleagues of Kalman and Enre, started demanding their own story. Beverley, Hyacinthe, and Inigo now have their own story, “Spicy Love” book three, “Blooming Love”, which is due for release in April. But this story isn’t an MM, it’s a ménage, FFM. There’s also a touch of the paranormal in this story.
One thing I can promise readers though. Trust me, there’s an absolutely solid, real-life reason, why this world and this story suddenly turned out this way.

WAIT! I’m writing a book!

I’m sure you’ve read about writer’s block and how authors try to get around it before. But sometimes trouble comes unexpectedly.
As most readers will have worked out from my books, I love summer, the hot weather, the beach, and walking through national parks. For some years I’ve enjoyed swimming at a local, large Aquatic Center. One day as I was swimming up and down in my lane (the slow lane, sadly, not the fast lane, or even the medium lane), I started thinking that an Aquatic Center would be a mighty fine place to meet Mr. Right. After all, there are plenty of brawny, naked chests, quite a lot of young, good-looking, ultra-fit life guards, and lots of sweaty, delicious muscles in the gym. The only surprising part of my decision was that I hadn’t thought of doing it long ago.
So I started writing the “Wet and Willing” series right there and then (in my head) as I swam. I expected it to be a paranormal series, as I’d been writing a lot of paranormal stories at that time, but the characters stayed firmly fixed in the here and now, showing no unusual abilities, remaining stolidly contemporary. Hey, that’s okay. Half the time I just take dictation from demanding characters anyway.
But then the unthinkable happened. The management of the Aquatic Center announced it was closing so they could undertake a major upgrade, and all the members had to find somewhere else to exercise for the eighteen months construction would take.
WAIT!! Just wait a minute. You can’t close the Aquatic Center! I’m in the middle of writing a series of books!!! Eighteen months! The readers would kill me if I took eighteen months off in the middle of a book!
Fortunately for my peace of mind, we were given passes to another Aquatic Center, a little farther away, but just as big and exciting. So the series, “Wet and Willing” was written.
Each of these books is a complete story in itself, but previous characters return for cameo appearances in later books.
And I’m still there every week, slowly making my way up and down the slow lane, getting inspiration from hunky life guards, and fit exercising men.

The “Wet and Willing” series is MMF ménage and available from http://www.bookstrand.com/berengaria-brown

Book 1: “Woman in Hot Water”. Blurb:
Unemployed and homeless, Kendra gets a job at the local Aquatic Center. Her new boss, Osborne, is very yummy, but he’s partnered to Jordan. When she’s offered a threesome with two such delicious men, how can she say no? And with so many opportunities to see their semi-naked bodies, being a good girl is not that easy either. Fun on the waterslide, a hot time in the sauna, slick, gleaming muscles in the gym...
When Jordan deduces that Kendra is sleeping in her car, the men ask her to stay in their guest room. She’s hesitant, but allows them to persuade her. Despite the best sex of her life, Kendra is determined to move into an apartment of her own as soon as possible, so she goes house-hunting. The men don’t like either of the places she chooses. She can’t risk losing her job but values her independence too.

Book 2: "Cold Woman, Hot Men". Blurb:
Melusine Carmichael mistakes the plunge pool at the Aquatic Center for a regular pool and almost drowns with the sudden shock of the icy-cold water. While underwater she hears a voice calling her "Melly," a name she never uses. Yehudi and Arlington are nearby in the sauna and rescue her, using their personal body heat and the sauna to warm her up. They keep in contact with her via Facebook, and finally convince her to let them teach her to swim.
But Mel hears the voice again and worries that they’re stalking her, so she cuts contact with them. Yehudi and Arlington try everything to see her and she prevents them, so they meet her parents after their swimming class. They learn about the voice saying "Melly" and that someone is stalking her.
But who is it? And how can they get Mel to spend time with them again so they can convince her of their innocence?

Book 3: “Small Woman, Big Trouble”. Blurb:
Deb Steele hikes through a Water Authority reservation. But houses are being built on one section of it, and she can’t get home. She phones Kai Cole, and he and Harry Anders come to get her. While she’s waiting for them, her cell phone battery dies and a young man turns up on an electric scooter. When he realizes she’s quite alone, he plans to sexually assault her. She escapes from him just as Kai and Harry arrive.
Kai worries about how he can protect Deborah if this man is following her, and Harry suggests they learn karate. Kai decides the only way their beginning threesome relationship can progress further is if they all move in together.
But, as Deb is leaving work late that evening, the attacker jumps her once again. Why is he after her? How can the men protect her? And will they ever have enough time to build their friendship into a genuine relationship?

Emeralds to protect you

Emeralds to protect you.

My birthstone is an amethyst. Amethysts are pale and pretty, but I’ve always preferred more vibrant colors. Sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. Especially emeralds. There’s no prize for guessing my favorite color is green.

A little while ago I wrote a series of three books, the Gemstone Romances. Each romance story featured a different gemstone which was pivotal to the romance. In the first book, “Courage and Comfort” the two heroes had to find an aquamarine to bring courage and comfort to Edmund’s tragically widowed sister, Mavis.

But in “Protecting You” the heroine, AJ, finds three stones right near the start of the book. The problem is, she’s hopelessly in love with a man already in a relationship with someone else, and she would never break up a relationship. AJ has the three stones she’s found, but can’t figure out the meaning of them.

One of the stones is an emerald. For hundreds of years emeralds have been considered to bring health and protection to those who have them. Because of their innate healing abilities, emeralds can protect the wearer from poisons, physical danger, and mental distress. By increasing a person’s innate psychic abilities, the emerald enhances their decision making powers and increases their energy. AJ is psychic. She’s the one who knew finding the aquamarine in the first book would help Mavis. But she doesn’t understand the meaning of the emerald, the onyx, and the piece of amber which she has found herself.

The emerald AJ has found is at the heart of what her future will be. Only a stone as powerful as an emerald could be tough enough to deal with a strong woman like AJ.

“Protecting You” by Berengaria Brown:
AJ has psychic abilities and knows Drew is her soul mate. But bisexual Drew flits from partner to partner. At the moment he’s with Kristien, and Kristien is very much in love with Drew. AJ can’t bear the thought that the only way for her to achieve happiness is to break Kristien’s heart.
She invites them both to join her and her friends at the beach for a few days, hoping to get closer to Drew. A rocky wall calls to her, and when she climbs up, she explores a cave and is led to three stones—an onyx, an emerald, and amber.
What do they mean?

What’s the big deal about Ménage Romance?

In an earlier blog about Lesbian Romance: Making HIStory HERstory as well, I talked about how women had no rights at all a few hundred years ago. I also said I’ve been endlessly fascinated about how women had nonetheless managed to find a way around the restrictions and rules under which they were obliged to live, and found happiness.
And then, as writers tend to do, I asked myself, “What If?”
What if women were treasured? What if women were considered special, and loved? What if the society’s culture taught men that a woman was a treasured possession, a person to be cherished, loved, and protected? I began researching other cultures and found out about several countries where all the brothers share a wife. Each of them is trained to be by her side to support and help her always.
I created a world where people following this ancient tradition had been forced into hiding. Where they built their homes underground, living apart from the mainstream world to avoid persecution for their cultural beliefs.
The “Possessive Passions” series takes some of these ancient cultural traditions from countries that practice (or practiced in the past) polyandry.
Reading erotic romance is a woman’s fantasy. And what better fantasy than to read about a world where women no longer have to struggle to be everything to everyone? Today’s women are expected to work a paid job, rear the kids, keep the apartment clean and tidy, exercise and stay fit and slim, help and support their aging parents, and still have enough energy left at the end of the day to cook a scrumptious meal, and romance the man in their life. Many women exhaust themselves trying to fulfill these kinds of unrealistic expectations. What better way to relax than to immerse oneself in a world where two (or even three) men worship their woman, offering endless love and support in a community designed for this lifestyle?
I loved building this world and meeting the people in it. I was sad when I finished writing the series. I’d like to live there myself!

“Shared Possession” Book 1 of “Possessive Passions” Blurb:
Chevaunne is abducted by three brothers who take her to a new world where brothers share one wife, who is their treasured possession. Jim, Sam, and Paul have waited years to find the perfect woman, and when they see Chevaunne, they know immediately she is the one for them.
After a mind-blowing night with the three men, Chevaunne marries them the next day in front of the entire community. Now she has to learn a totally new life—a new culture, new ways of doing everything. But the sex is amazing, her men are considerate and loving, and Chevaunne is making friends and settling in.
Soon, though, she begins to wonder if she’s losing her mind. No matter how happy she is, she was kidnapped, after all! What was she thinking when she agreed to stay?

“Shared Possession” story excerpt

Chevaunne became aware she was aching deliciously in all sorts of places that had been neglected for far too long. Both her previous boyfriends had been fellow workers at the hospital, one a doctor, the other an admin assistant. The relationship with the doctor had gradually fizzled out when their schedules never seemed to have them off work at the same time, and she’d decided she wanted a lot more than the occasional fuck against the supply room wall. The other relationship had ended in a blaze of anger when she’d discovered he was only dating her “because nurses know how to give good head.”
So why was she feeling so well-used and relaxed when she had no current boyfriend?
Chevaunne wriggled down a little deeper under the covers and felt the hard bodies lying on either side of her. Suddenly, she was wide-awake. Oh, shit! That hadn’t been a dream. I really was kidnapped by three brothers and agreed to marry them, then had my brains fucked out over and over again.
Her eyes flew open, and she sat up in the bed. Yep, three men. Jim, Sam, and Paul. And she’d agreed to marry them. She needed to see a psychiatrist right now and get her head examined!
Two gentle hands pulled her over onto a hard body. “Morning, beautiful lady.”
That was Paul. He’d called her that last night.
All three of them kissed her, and hands slid over her body, teasing her breasts, cupping her mound, touching her gently along her ribs and down her side. Lust exploded in her and cream dripped onto her inner thighs. I can’t possibly have sex again. I’ve never had so many orgasms in one night in my life before! There’s no way I could do it again so soon. Or is there?
Regret sounded strongly in his voice as Jim said, “We would enjoy making love to you again, but we don’t want you to be too sore. This morning we must say our vows to the Justice of the Peace and our monk, Father Yeshe. Come and shower now, then we need to have breakfast and get dressed.”
Jim took her to the bathroom and showed her where the shampoo and soaps were kept and pointed out the pile of towels to her, and then he left her alone.
Chevaunne shut the door and sank onto the commode. Actually, one of the two commodes. There were two sinks as well, plus the biggest tub she’d ever seen. Dazedly, Chevaunne shook her head. Her brain was still trying to grasp what she’d done. Had she really agreed to marry three men? How did that work? I’m pretty sure that’s not legal, but then neither is kidnapping. So who is this JP we’re seeing? Why see a JP when one woman marrying three men isn’t legal?
It was all too much to think about, and her tummy was rumbling. She hadn’t eaten supper, and she’d burned off a lot of calories last night. She grinned as she remembered the fantastic sex and stepped into the shower.

Do you like Dragons?

“Dragon’s Bond”: Blurb
Mallory is fascinated by three life-size stone dragon statues. Then one night they come to life and she learns they’re shape-shifters. One of the museum’s directors, Teivel, plans to use the shape-shifting dragons as art thieves by placing them in exhibitions in other museums, and Mallory, Angus, William, and Mark now have to find out which statues are shape-shifters and how they can prevent Teivel from implementing his plan. That makes their days very busy, but the nights are for their own pleasure.
Can they outwit Teivel? What will happen if Mallory loses her job or the statues have to leave their home in the museum? And can a relationship built on a crisis and unbridled lust develop into lasting love and enduring passion?

“Dragons Redeemed”: Blurb
Trudy is a locksmith and security expert who Mallory asked to quote to improve the security at The Magic Dragon Museum. When Trudy arrives at the museum, it’s full of naked people, and four of the men say she belongs to them! The dragons need to reclaim their human lives while stopping Teivel’s plan to steal the artworks—if they can get out of bed long enough to concentrate.
Meanwhile Trudy has a job to do and a business to run. Crevan, Daegan, Graegor, and Penllyn are determined to protect her while watching Teivel. The dragon shape-shifters have their hands full with an independent, determined woman and a bad guy planning to cause trouble. Plus Mallory wants to come back to the museum, and her men are set on protecting her from Teivel, too.
Between lust and danger, sparks are flying everywhere.

STORY EXCERPT
Trudy had not enjoyed a sheltered childhood. She’d pretty much brought herself up while her mother worked eighteen or more hours a day, seven days a week, in a sweatshop, sewing clothes for two dollars an hour. She’d seen life on the streets in all its sordid detail and come to the conclusion that it wasn’t for her. She’d also decided by the age of twelve that sewing, prostitution, and crime weren’t careers she’d follow. At fifteen, she’d apprenticed herself to Larry, an elderly locksmith. The day she’d turned eighteen, he’d handed the business over to her and caught a plane to Florida where he planned to sit on the beach for the rest of his life.
But when she’d decided to hand-deliver her quotation for upgrading security at The Magic Dragon Museum, she’d thought she’d be speaking to Mallory, the manager/curator there, and possibly her boyfriend, Angus, who seemed a possessive kind of man. Trudy entered Mallory’s apartment via the roof garden to prove how useless the current security was. The last thing she expected to see was four completely naked men, three other men wearing only jeans, and a woman dressed in nothing but a baggy T-shirt, as well as Mallory and Angus.
Life on the streets had been eye-opening, and as a locksmith she’d had to rescue the occasional naked person who’d locked themselves out of their apartment, but nothing had prepared her for this.
“What the fuck is going on here? And why are so many of you naked?”
“They’re all dragon shape-shifters. This museum is their home,” said Mallory.
Trudy couldn’t see any evidence they’d been drinking, or doing drugs, but that sure didn’t sound logical to her. “Right. Okay. This is my quotation for the security. I’ll just leave it here and be on my way then.”
“Oh no you won’t. What if she’s working for Teivel?” One of the naked men, a very good-looking one with brown hair and eyes and a really long cock, grabbed her arm and pulled her against his chest.
An upbringing like hers had taught Trudy many skills other women didn’t have. She slid under his arm, twisted sideways, and rammed her knee into his balls, then stepped smartly out of his reach. “I own my own business and don’t work for anyone but myself, you pervert.”
The man was bent forward, holding his family jewels. Trudy was actually rather surprised he wasn’t curled up on the floor crying. He must be pretty tough. Or else she didn’t hit him hard enough.
Most of the people in the apartment were now talking at once. From what Trudy could understand, some of them didn’t want to tell her anything, and Mallory and the other woman were arguing she should be told the truth. Yeah, the truth would be great, but she could live without it. Right now it was time to go.
Trudy backed silently toward the door she’d entered by, but another one of the naked men, a redhead, was watching her. “Don’t sneak off. We won’t hurt you. If you come in and sit down, we’ll tell you why Mallory asked you to improve the locks here.”
“Why don’t you tell me why you’re naked? If this is supposed to be an orgy, where are all the other women?”
One of the men wearing only jeans and the woman who wasn’t Mallory were locked in a passionate embrace. Maybe it was an orgy.

Why I love—and hate—epublishing

What I love:
Digital publishing is so much faster than traditional print publishing. That means I don’t have to wait a year for the next book in a series. As an author, it means I can publish more books faster. Also, as an author it means my books are never out of print. If someone discovers me, all my backlist is sitting there for them to look through.
As a reader, nothing is worse than spending hours on eBay trying to find a backlist book from a favorite author, and seeing that the shipping costs will be twice the price of the book itself. That never happens with epublishing.

What I hate:
Pirates. I understand (but don’t necessarily condone) a reader’s frustration when all their friends in one country are able to read the latest book in a series, but they, in some different country, have to wait weeks or even months for it to be released. But I don’t understand the people who don’t even try to buy a book legally, but automatically go to a pirate site and download the book, which they proceed to give to all their friends, who give it to all their friends, who…
Honey, if no one pays to read this book, I’m a lot less likely to ever write the next one in that series.

And now for something different.
“Seeds of Love” released 29 January. It’s different from most ménage stories in that it’s an FFM book. It’s Bev’s story, but it’s also Cinthe’s story. And since Cinthe loves Inigo as well as Bev, that gets complicated.

Beverley is hopelessly in love with Hyacinthe. Hyacinthe loves Bev, but she also loves their hot-bodied coworker Inigo. Which doesn’t help Bev’s already low self-esteem. The only saving grace is that Inigo seems a pretty decent guy.
Ménage sex gradually brings the triad together—until Cinthe’s fairy wings sprout. Inigo and Bev don’t cope well with this change—because everyone knows there’s no such thing as a fairy. Bev’s obsession with her physical inadequacies takes a backseat to her concern over the wings sticking out of her lover’s back.
While Beverley struggles to come to terms with having a fairy for a girlfriend, she also has to deal with someone stealing rare plants from the botanical gardens where they all work.

EXCERPT PG13
Nothing happened for long seconds, then Hyacinthe felt the air move by the nightstand drawer. Ah, Inigo would be lifting toys out, likely showing them to Beverley or maybe just choosing some himself. Yes, they were moving again, Beverley would be choosing some toys, or accepting the ones Inigo offered her.
Careful to keep her face expressionless, Hyacinthe grinned hugely in her mind. Over the years she'd collected an impressive array of toys. Although she seldom used them when having sex with a partner, she enjoyed experimenting when alone, and had nipple clamps and clips, dildos, butt plugs, vibrators, and scented oils. She could hardly wait to find out which ones they'd use on her.
There was the soft sound of fabric being removed, the slide of a zipper, the pop of a snap fastener, then Inigo's heavy weight was beside her on the bed and his big hands ran lightly from her toes, over her sensitive arches, and around her heels.
Delicious! Cinthe shivered with delight.
A soft plop was followed by the weight of a body sitting on the other side of the bed.
Bev has taken her shoes off and joined us, deduced Hyacinthe.
Beverley's hands were slightly rough from all the outdoor work they did, but she used them gently to trail along Hyacinthe's rib cage and tenderly cup a breast.
Unconsciously, Hyacinthe thrust her breast up into Beverley's warm palm, feeling her nipple peak instantly at the slight touch of Bev's finger. Meanwhile, Inigo's hands were gradually moving higher up Hyacinthe's leg, teasing behind her knee and over her lower thigh.
A hot tongue licked warm, wet patterns on her lower thigh, circles and spirals and pictures, then a mouth puffed warm air on the wet spots, making Hyacinthe shiver once again.
At that very moment another mouth descended on her breast, sucking nipple and areola deep into a warm cavern. A tongue pressed Hyacinthe's nipple to the roof of a mouth then rolled it and played with it. Hyacinthe groaned. Oh yes! Beverley had a very talented mouth. And the moves Inigo made on her thigh were not so shabby either. His tongue was reaching higher and higher up her leg, causing a spiral of need to build deep in her core.
Hyacinthe groaned again as Bev released her nipple then blew on the wet peak. Bev's hands disappeared for a moment then a nipple clamp bit into her flesh with just the right amount of tension to ride the perfect line between pleasure and pain.
The bed creaked as Inigo moved between Hyacinthe's spread legs, his wide shoulders pushing them even farther apart, and Beverley got off the bed and moved around to the other side. Aha! Hyacinthe thought. They have divided me as above and below the waist, not right and left sides!

Have you ever wondered...

Have you ever wondered what statues do at night, when no one is watching them? Have you thought how they must feel, forced to stand there and say nothing about everything they see all day long? And have you wondered what happens on Samhain?

“Naked Statues” blurb:
A series of naked, well-endowed statues in the local park encourage lovers Fleur, Ricky, and Heath to indulge in some hot, naughty public sex. But is there more to these statues than rock-hard abs?
Lily and Flynn have been trapped inside a statue since last Halloween. When a mischievous God with a love of all things sexual swaps them for the trio of lovers, can the strength of their love set them all free?

WARNING!!! PG13 excerpt:
“Oh my goodness! Now this one I like,” laughed Fleur, climbing up the steps onto a statue in the Botanical Gardens. She slid between the legs of the man of stone and rested her mouth over its extra large penis.
“This one’s so much better endowed than the angel with the long, curly hair we saw over there a ways.”
Ulric snapped a photo of her on his phone, saying, “Sweetie, that was no angel. That was Eros, and trust me, his behavior is said to be anything but angelic!”
“I wouldn’t expect anything else from the God of Love and Sex!” She jumped down from the statue to look at the photo with him. Meanwhile Heath had kept walking, his gaze on a statue down a short pathway on their right.
“Hey, Ricky, you’ll like this one better, I promise,” called Heath.
Fleur ran to see what Heath was looking at and Ulric ambled along behind his two partners. He loved them both equally, and as a triad they had some spectacular sex, but he didn’t always understand their thought patterns. Especially Fleur’s. He grinned, remembering when he first met them. He’d hated having to go to that charity dinner. Then the three had all been left sitting at the table when their tablemates got up to dance. They’d started talking, and the relationship had exploded from there.
While the idea of spending a sunny Saturday afternoon walking around the Botanical Gardens was totally not his scene, Fleur had wanted to come, Heath was agreeable, and as Ricky hadn’t had any better ideas of things to do, here they were. Besides, he was amused at Fleur’s enthusiastic explanation that the trip to the gardens was all about their names. She’d said Fleur was French for flower, and Heath was a kind of plant, and gardens always had flowers and plants. Also, Ulric means wolf and she’d heard a statue of a wolf was to be found in the gardens. Maybe next weekend we’d better go to the zoo. Ricky grinned to himself and caught up to the others. Heath was staring up at a statue of a woman wearing nothing much, with one huge breast exposed.
“Climb up and kiss it, Heath, and I’ll take your photo,” called Fleur.
Heath shrugged the backpack off his shoulders and took a run up to the statue, catching hold of her elbows and kissing the breast, before dropping back to the ground.
The three laughed over the rather blurry photo on Fleur’s phone, then Heath picked up his backpack and they continued walking along the little path, which took another turn.
“We seem to be walking around this neverending hedge-thing. I wonder what it is,” commented Fleur.
Still another turn took them to the opening in the hedge and a sign.
“It’s a maze! Oh, awesome. Come on,” called Fleur, running inside. “Right or left?”
Ricky scanned the sign, but there was no key to the maze there. “Likely we’ll be stuck here for a hundred years, slowly starving and turning into skeletons,” he wailed in as mournful a voice as he could manage.
“Our bones will be found by archeologists on a dig in the year 2100,” added Heath in a sepulchral tone.
But Fleur just laughed, turning right and left as they meandered through the maze.

One day, two books release

I had two books release 31 July. That's one of those things that can happen when an author writes for several different publishers, and a reason why some people like to indie publish. In the past, it wouldn't have done anything other than make me laugh. But this last 12 months I've been so busy with the day job I've written very little. In fact, one of the books published that day is the only non-short-story I've written in a year. So it was a kind of wtf moment when I got the release dates.
Anyway, it's nice to see them both out in the world.

I thought the “Possessive Passions” series was finished once Chevaunne, Shiloah, Kiri, and Anh had their very own happy endings. But Kenzie demanded that her story be told. So here it is.

“Captured Possession” Blurb:
For generations, the men of New Thimphu have kidnapped the woman of their choice, spent the night making love to her, and then demanded she marry them. Doms Ryker Volkov and Coulton Urquahart work together to capture the woman of their dreams, Kenzie Evans. But Kenzie doesn’t believe two Doms and one sub can possibly work, so she says no to their advances.
They punish her for rejecting them then take her to bed, determined to woo her with orgasms. At the end of the night she again refuses, believing that she can't satisfy two Doms for long. This time they leave her naked, chained to the bed. When Kenzie wakes up they’ve both gone to work, but she takes her situation as a challenge and uses the bedding to make herself a poncho and finds Coulton’s hidden computer to entertain herself with. The men again ask her to marry them, but she refuses. How will they convince her they love her?

In Honor of Halloween....

Here's a brand new Halloween Werewolf Story out today!

“Werewolves Can’t Fly” blurb:

Mermae joined Kade and Iain four months ago. Halloween is almost here and Iain, a werewolf, is desperate for them to commit to each other.
But how can they keep their secrets in a city? And if they move out of the city how will they earn money and live?
Iain asked werewolves Dwyer and Nelson, who live on a secure farm, if his family can bond there and run on Halloween. Dwyer and Nelson are thrilled Iain has found his third person and welcome them to a little hidden cabin.
The mating is wonderful, but all their other problems remain unresolved. Is there a solution to them?

WARNING: PG 13 EXCERPT

They lay on their sides in bed, sweaty and relaxed, satiated, yet Iain wanted more. With Halloween so close now, he wanted to convince-- no, that's wasn't fair. All decisions had to be made freely. He wanted Mermae and Kade to understand how badly he needed them to mate, to commit to each other, so his wolf side would be fulfilled.
Hoping he could explain himself properly, Iain said, "Halloween is special to a werewolf."
"What, you're going to howl at the moon?" teased Mermae.
He tugged her closer to him. "You never know, I might. But I really will need to run properly that night, and I want you both to be beside me. Traditionally, we fuck, then run, then fuck again on Halloween."
Mermae slid up on an elbow so she could look into his face. "There's more than that, though, isn't there?"
"You're a very perceptive woman. Yes, there is. We usually fuck the first time as humans and the second time as wolves, but that can't happen in our triad. But the ritual, yeah I need to complete the ritual. I..." Iain broke off. He didn't want to pressure her, or Kade, although Kade knew a bit more about how important this all was to him.
"You want us to commit." Mermae spoke slowly yet firmly.
Iain rolled over and lay flat on his back staring at her face, trying to read the expression behind her eyes. He nodded. What if she turns me down? What if she isn't ready yet to take this step?
"Okay. Let's just go through this all again. You can bite me without turning me into a werewolf. You've bitten Kade and nothing's ever happened to him. Right?"
"Yes." Kade spoke at the same time as him. Iain was going to add more, but it was obvious Mermae was still thinking, so he waited for her to finish.
"The commitment is binding. Once we commit it's for life. Except that you're going to live a hell of a lot longer than Kade and me. Does this mean even after we die you can never commit to another two people?"
"Yes, it does. But I've been told in committed triads that include non-wolves, the humans tend to live quite a lot longer than regular humans. As you know, I've never lived in a pack. We were lone wolves. My three parents and twin brother were killed by hunters when I was a teenager and when I looked for a pack, they were all one male/one female packs, and much bigger than me and..." Once again he couldn't finish what he wanted to say. This was not the time to pull the pity card. Mermae had to decide for herself, not because of anything he said, but because she wanted to commit to him and Kade.

You can’t close the Aquatic Center. I’m writing a book!

Right. After all, there’s plenty of brawny, naked chests, quite a lot of young, good-looking, ultra-fit life guards, and lots of sweaty, delicious muscles in the gym. The only surprising part of my decision was that I hadn’t thought of doing it long ago.

So I started writing the “Wet and Willing” series right there and then (in my head) as I swam. I expected it to be a paranormal series, as I’ve been writing a lot of paranormal stories lately, but the characters stayed firmly fixed in the here and now, showing no unusual abilities, remaining stolidly contemporary.

Eighteen months! Didn’t they understand I was in the middle of writing a series of books? The readers would kill me if I took eighteen months off in the middle of it!

Fortunately for my peace of mind, we were given passes to another Aquatic Center, a little farther away, but just as big and exciting. So the series, “Wet and Willing” continues to be written. Thank god!

Berengaria Brown Bio:

Berengaria is a multi-published author of erotic romance: contemporary, paranormal (magic, ghosts, vampires, fairies, dragons, and werewolves), futuristic, medieval, and Regency-set historical. She loves to read all different kinds of romance so that is what she writes: one man/one woman; two women; two men; two men/one woman; three men, two women/one man, three men/one woman…. Whatever the characters need for their very hot happily-ever-after, Berengaria makes sure they get it.

Book 2 in the “Wet and Willing” series has just been released

"Cold Woman, Hot Men" blurb:

STORY EXCERPT

Yehudi was leaning back against the wall of the sauna, his eyes half closed, his brain counting the minutes until he could get Arlington out of his teeny tiny swimwear and his own cock buried in Arlington’s tautly delicious ass. If he’d thought to bring lube in his gym bag, he may have been able to convince Arlington to fuck in the shower, right here in the change rooms at the Aquatic Center. But with kids around, it was likely just as well to wait until they were back home. But that meant adding another twenty minutes onto a wait that was already stretching out to be way too long for the ongoing happiness of his cock.

Arlington was looking though the glass panel in the door, snorting and shaking his head.

“What’s so amusing,” Yehudi asked.

“There’s a woman staring at the plunge pool, like she’s never seen one before. She’s taking her towel off, so maybe she’s going to come in here. Oooh, nice body. I like those long legs. Nice tits, too.”

“That’s it? You’re not going to tell me her hair color and eye color, and her height to the nearest inch?”

Arlington turned to grin at him. “Five six, blonde and blue.”

Yehudi heard a lot of splashing. “What on earth is she doing?” he asked.

“Drowning!” Arlington opened the door so roughly it crashed into the wall as he raced out. Yehudi jumped up and followed him out to the plunge pool.

The woman—well, he supposed it was the woman—was definitely underwater, and this was not the kind of place to practice underwater swimming. The whole point of the plunge pool was that users of the sauna jumped into the icy cold pool, and climbed straight out again to cool off after the heat of the sauna.

Arlington had jumped in and dived under the woman’s body, using his broad shoulders and strong back to push her up to the surface and nudge her to the side of the pool. Yehudi kneeled down and leaned over, grabbing hold of the woman’s arm, which was very cold indeed, and pulling her higher out of the water. Arlington pushed her some more, and Yehudi got a good grip on her waist and lifted her up onto the edge of the pool. He turned her onto her side and banged on her back. She coughed then dragged a rasping breath into her body.

Meanwhile Arlington had climbed out of the pool. “She’s breathing. Good.”

“Let’s get her—and you—back into the sauna to warm up.

“I like that plan.”

Yehudi picked her up and carried her the short distance into the sauna, laying her on his own towel, which was on the bench where he’d left it. Arlington followed him in the door then threw more water on the hot stones of the fire to make steam.

“Her skin is still icy,” said Yehudi. He was worried about her. Was this a suicide attempt? Why would she have deliberately jumped into the water if she couldn’t swim? “I’ll get her towel,” he said, wanting Arlington to stay in the sauna and warm himself up again after the cold water.

The woman was coughing again when he returned, and he gently wrapped her towel over her shoulders. “Thanks,” she said then coughed again.

After a few minutes she sat up, hugging the towel around her body.

“What happened?” Yehudi asked, at exactly the same time as Arlington said, “Why did you get in the pool if you can’t swim?”

When stories link up

One night I had a dream. I got out of bed, and wrote it down, but I had no idea what it meant, or where it was going. I showed it to author Anny Cook, and asked, “What do I do now?” She told me to keep writing. She said that sort of thing happened to her a lot. Either it turned into a book, or it would just stop. Well, I took her advice, kept writing, and it turned into three books. And finally, with the third book, I realized what the connection was. It is actually what happens more than fifty years after the “Raw Claiming” series I wrote.

“Forbidden Future” was the first book, which begins with my dream. As I kept writing, three characters took over, demanding their story be told.
More than fifty years ago, wicked winds, carrying deadly diseases, swept across the land, and their ancestors fled to a protected valley. But now the easy-to-gather food and fuel are used up, and the people struggle to feed themselves. The goods their ancestors had brought with them are worn out, and life is hard trying to feed and provide for themselves.
Zuri, Udo, and Tau love each other, but have to meet in the forest to make love. The people decide to go to the city to look for food and fuel. It’s Zuri who finds the ancestors’ truck and asks for a gift in return—that she, Tau, and Udo could be together.
When they get to the city they meet up with three other people, and book 2, “Future Revealed”, is the story of Ruby, Pagan, and Koby. They are alone and lonely, but have worked very hard to survive and don’t want to give that up and move to Zuri’s village where hunger is such a threat.
And as I wrote book 3, Adena, Arthur and Ghedi’s story, everything just clicked into place. This book is called “Raw Future”, because it links back to the “Raw Claiming” series I wrote. In the “Raw Claiming” series the world has changed dramatically and the people are hiding from radioactive fallout. Only now did I understand why Zuri’s ancestors had fled from the cities to a protected valley.
And for anyone who has read the “Raw Claiming” books, “Raw Craving”, “Raw Need” and “Raw Want”, they will see some characters return fifty and more years later.

EXCERPT: This is the opening scene of “Forbidden Future”, that I dreamed.
He limped slowly up the long hill, leaning heavily on his cane. From time to time he stopped, breathing heavily, but he always began walking again, a little slower perhaps, the cane digging deeper into the grass as he leaned harder on it, but he persisted all the way until he finally reached the top.
When he arrived there, he rested both hands on the walking stick then lowered himself to the grass, dropping the last nine or ten inches onto his ass with a slight thump and an expletive.
Dammit, I don’t know why I come here. It always makes my knees ache and I always have to rest. Yeah and getting up is always a bitch. Gonna be a helluva bitch again today.
He smiled. He knew why he came. It was the only connection left to his childhood. A world long gone that almost no one else could remember. He was only fifty-eight years old. Not so old perhaps, but these days few people lived past forty. Life was just too damn hard. He had a dim memory of attending an eightieth birthday party. For his grandmother? Or likely his great-grandmother. Who knew anymore? But what he did know, what he still saw clearly in his mind, was the crowd of really old people, people in their eighties, nineties even, who’d been at that party.
Ah yes, it was more than fifty years ago though. Before everything had changed. Before…
He looked around him, taking in the panoramic view he’d expended so much pain and energy to see. Every time he came here, he was aware it might be the last time. The last time he could look into the distance and see the high buildings of what had once been a city. It was crumbled now, ruined, with wild grasses growing up in the cracked buildings. With houses and apartment blocks fallen down over what had once been freeways.
The people he lived with—or more accurately, the parents and grandparents of the people he lived with—had escaped from that big city and made their home here, next to a fresh-flowing river, in a lush valley where crops grew well. Where they were protected from the wicked winds that raced across the land, destroying houses and pushing down trees. Winds that for the first ten years had carried diseases that killed anyone exposed to them for too long. Winds that even now sent everyone scurrying indoors to shelter until they blew themselves out, even though no one had died from wind-borne diseases for many years now.
No one knew exactly what had happened. He was much too young then to understand more than the desperate scramble to leave the city and travel as far and as fast as they could. Until they came to the valley and there they stopped and hid and sheltered and stayed, building a new home.
But he remembered the city and yearned for its conveniences. For lights that went on when he flicked a switch. For foods that stayed cold on hot days, and for the ability to heat and cook food in moments, instead of it taking hours. The young children thought his stories about his childhood were just stories since almost no one alive had lived in the city. But although he’d only been a child then, his mind was not deranged. His memories were clear. However, he’d learned not to speak of them anymore. So here he came to look, to remember, to wonder what the children growing up in the valley would have for their future. So much hard work to produce food and fuel, and so little time to appreciate anything of beauty. No time for joy or learning. What would their lives hold?

Berengaria Brown dips her toes into Medieval Romance

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been fascinated by Medieval stories, particularly medieval romance. As I got older the attraction got stronger. What’s not to like about pretty ladies in flowing robes and long hair. Not to mention half-naked warriors waving swords around.
When I was looking for a new story idea I remembered my love of medieval history. My Regency romances very strictly adhere to the rules of the Regency time period, but I had no idea where to begin researching a medieval, so decided to get things as right as I could, but put a disclaimer in the books that the setting was simply my imagination. The weather needed to be just right for the plot, so instead of trying to find a part of Europe where that would happen, I went with a slightly “fantasized” medieval setting.
I began with the Lady Elinor, who is left alone to care for her family’s castle, people, and lands when her father and two brothers are killed in battle. But the story wouldn’t end. Her new husband’s cousin arrived needing protection. Lord Jeffrey refused to be defeated…
And then, when I thought I was done, I remembered all those stories about Robin Hood, and knew there was still one more hero needing his happy-ever-after.
All four books in the medieval romance series, “Elinor’s Stronghold” are now available!
 Book1: “Pillaging Elinor’s Castle” blurb:
Lady Elinor's father and two brothers are killed in battle, and Lord Rhys loses his demesne. To protect her people Elinor decides she will marry Lord Rhys, but only if he agrees the Captain of the Guard, Hammond, will share their bed and the decision making from now on. They agree and seal their contract in blood. Rhys and his people move into the stronghold.
After the wedding they begin to plan for how to survive the attack that will inevitably come. The stronghold is a wealthy one, and many will consider it an easy target with its lord and his sons dead. They also have to blend the two households together and prepare for the coming winter. At night Hammond and Rhys work hard in bed, learning to share Elinor, finding out what pleases her best, and arousing each other to new heights along the way.

Book 2: “Defending Rhyannon’s Inheritance” blurb:
Hated and incompetent Lord Jeffrey wants to marry Rhyannon, and her bad-tempered cousin, Coll, wants to steal her jewels. She needs a good protector.
Alistair has loved her faithfully for years, but he has no assets and can’t support them both. Lord Devon is a suitable husband, but does he even like Rhyannon? It’s a big challenge, but maybe together Alistair and Lord Devon can protect her and her jewels from Lord Jeffrey and Cousin Coll.
Meanwhile, winter is settling on the stronghold and Lord Jeffrey is attacking the people once again. And Cousin Coll is determined to get her jewels any way he can. Surviving the winter is hard enough to do without all these other things happening as well. Everyone in the stronghold is living on a knife edge. Alistair and Lord Devon focus on Rhyannon. They’ll love her and protect her—and each other as well.

Book 3: “Restoring Garnet’s Heart”: blurb
Tragically widowed, Garnet is loved by two men. If a noble lady can have two men, why can’t a mere sewing woman? Garnet decides she’ll marry them both! Then she adopts two orphaned, starving little girls.
Garnet, Byram, and Carlysle are sent to repair the demesne. Can they achieve this huge task before the harvest is gathered in? First a high stone wall needs to be built to protect them from attackers. The buildings must be cleaned and repaired, the crops sown, weeded, cared for, and hopefully reaped. Is it possible to complete such a huge undertaking before the next vicious winter arrives? Will the peasants help them?
Meanwhile Lady Elinor gives birth to the heir of the stronghold, and Lord Rhys and Lady Rhyannon, with Alistair and Lord Devon, go to court to sort out her inheritance.

And what about Garnet’s threesome relationship? Will that be successful?

Book 4: “Bringing Claire Home” blurb:
A year ago, Paul took his sister Claire away to escape Lord Jeffrey’s attacks on the hamlets. Mitchell and Claire were in love, but Mitchell hadn’t asked her to marry him before she left. Now he aches for her, and goes in search of her to bring her back to his home as his bride. But no one has seen or heard of her, and the hamlet where she was to go is empty.
Finally Mitchell meets Ivan, who takes him into the forest where Claire and Paul, and Ivan himself, have been living for the past year. But Ivan loves Claire, too, and Claire owes him her life. Mitchell suggests he and Ivan share Claire. Can this possibly work—two men with no tie to each other and the one woman they both love? And can they survive a dangerous journey home?

Story Excerpt from “Defending Rhyannon’s Inheritance”.
“Lord Devon, you are the only suitable unmarried noble here.” Lord Rhys stared at the warrior. He was good-looking, broad of shoulder, and strong of arm. His hair was a pale gold, his eyes blue, and Rhys thought a lady would not find him unappealing. Certainly he was neither old, nor did he dribble.
“I don’t— I haven’t—” Lord Devon visibly pulled himself together and bowed. “Yes, lord, I will marry the Lady Rhyannon. It will be an honor. I should tell you, I was reared only with men and know nothing about ladies, but I shall endeavor to learn, and I give you my solemn vow to protect her from all dangers, not just Lord Jeffrey.”
Lady Elinor leaned forward across the high table. “Lord Devon, as a soldier you are used to sharing everything with your fellow warriors, are you not?”
“Yes, lady, of course.”
“And you know that the Lady Rhyannon and Alistair love one another?”
Lord Devon’s fair face colored red. He swallowed and said, “Yes, lady.”
“It is you who must marry her. You are noble and a fitting match. But there is no reason why Alistair could not assist you with caring for the Lady Rhyannon. As a soldier always has a man to watch his back, Alistair would be the one to watch your back, and Lady Rhyannon’s.”
Father Augustus drew in a breath noisily, but no one said anything. Then, to Rhys’s relief, Lord Devon nodded again. “That sounds reasonable, Lady Elinor.”
Rhys’s heart was pounding, the blood pouring through his body making him feel hot and cold all at once. Had his wife just said, in front of a group of men, one of them a priest, that Lord Devon should marry Rhyannon and then allow Alistair to fuck her as well? Yes, she had, and with a straight, innocent face. What’s more, Lord Devon had agreed! Never would Rhys have suggested such a thing, even if he’d thought of it, which he hadn’t. But then, he and Hammond shared Elinor, and that had been her idea, too, so he supposed he shouldn’t be too shocked she’d done it again.
Rhys lifted an arm, and Byram, the steward, came over to the high table. “Yes, lord.”
“Please ask Alistair to join us.”
